About the project

The Green Line Light Rail Project in the Tel Aviv Metropolitan Area is being implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, and includes the planning, procurement, construction and maintenance phases of the line.

The Green Line will connect the western areas of Herzliya, the northeast of Tel Aviv, Holon and the east of Rishon LeZion to the center of Tel Aviv. The line’s goal is to improve accessibility to the city center and strengthen connectivity between residential, business and transportation hubs in the metropolitan area.

The line is approximately 39 kilometers long, of which approximately 4.2 kilometers are underground. There will be 62 stations along the line, including:

2 submerged stations – Levinsky and Namir

3 elevated stations – Reading, Exhibition Center and Pinhas Rosen

4 underground stations – Carlebach, Kaplan, Arlozorov-West and Rabin

The line will run mostly above ground, except for the section in central Tel Aviv, which will run underground. In addition, two operating terminals (depots) will be built – in Holon and Herzliya, and the line will be operated by 98 light rail vehicles, which will operate as pairs (double units).

The Green Line system has two extensions – northern and southern – which will connect parts of the metropolis to the heart of the city. The line will provide a solution to the transportation needs of the future development areas in northwest Tel Aviv and west Herzliya, and will allow direct and convenient access to major employment centers such as Ramat HaHayal, Tel Aviv University, Holon, Rishon LeZion and Herzliya Pituach.
