BIM
SYSTEM
COORDINATION

Systems coordination is a critical stage in the planning and execution of construction and infrastructure projects.

At this stage, all building systems are coordinated, from structural elements such as beams and columns to all MEP, and additional specialized systems required in more complex projects.

MEP Coordination goes beyond identifying clashes. A significant part of the process involves providing engineering solutions across all disciplines.

Using the federated model, the CDE, and BPM’s dedicated digital tools,
the MEP-Coordinator develops optimal solutions for system installation, with a strong emphasis on maintenance, operability, and construction costs.

Early-Stage Tools and Definitions for Designers

Clash Detection and Resolution
Concrete Openings

Quality control of system models for readiness.
Creation of a prism model for designers, providing height restrictions in basements and other critical areas of the project.
Implementation and training on BPM’s dedicated digital tools for design teams.

The coordination between architecture and structure is a required preliminary stage before beginning full systems coordination. It includes:

Preparing a complete set of plans and sections for each building (floors and axes), highlighting any existing gaps
Delivering precise plans that enable seamless coordination between architecture and structure.

Creation of comparative sections between the existing state (EX) and the coordinated state (SU) across all floors and intersections.
This process enables early systems coordination without relying on endless clash lists or switching between multiple software platforms, designers remain in their Revit environment throughout the process
The federated model allows tracking of the coordination process between existing and coordinated conditions.

Once the initial systems coordination is completed and the integrated model is in place, the systems coordinator reviews and identifies any remaining clashes, such as new or modified elements, implementation errors, or issues detected in follow-up checks.

With BPM’s BONDS application, designers can easily access the relevant clash points for their discipline, resolve them directly in Revit, and seamlessly update the status in the system.

Managing concrete openings requires clear and standardized work protocols.
Openings undergo synchronization and approval processes among designers until their final integration into the structural model and construction layouts.
These openings are parametric 3D components that include:
Dimensions, Discipline ownership, Elevation data, Approval and tracking status, Creation date, Unique serial number
